Buhl stretches across the heart of the wooded hillsides of the Vallée du Florival , close to the Lac de la Lauch (alt. 950m) and the Markstein ski resort (15km, alt. 1424m). This is an ideal departure point for exploring the "Route des crêtes (Cliff Road)" from which you can admire the different valleys of the Vosges mountains and even catch a glimpse of the Alps in clear skies.
Buhl offers both large natural recreational spaces and a surprising heritage that transports visitors from the Middle Ages to the modern era, from the ruins of the Hugstein Castle to the vestiges of the industrial era.
The commune is home notably to a magnificent XVth c. tryptych saved from destruction during the Revolution and attributed to the Ecole de Martin Schoengauer.
Buhl is the native town of Maurice Koechlin whose role in the Eiffel company was pivotal to the construction of the famous Eiffel tower and the design of plans for the Statue of Liberty in New York.

The “Grande cavalcade” of the Buhl carnival
Every year in February, the royal trio and the princely couple are elected as the chosen ones to participate in this big parade. You must not miss this large traditional parade! Refreshment kiosk and restaurants onsite. Free.
