Guebwiller

The town of Guebwiller is located on the wine route in Alsace at an altitude of 300 metres, at the foot of the "Grand Ballon", previously known as "Ballon de Guebwiller", the highest summit of the Vosges mountains (1424m).

Called the "Pays d’Art et d’Histoire (Land of Art and History)" and listed as a Touristic commune, the town of Guebwiller (Gawiller in Alsacian) abounds with architectural and other heritage treasures. This former capital belonging to the Murbach Abbey is in the heart of the Vallée du Florival (from the Latin Florigeravallis: literally valley of the flowers).

Known as "the town of three churches", Guebwiller houses monuments exhibiting a variety of architectural styles. Among the people who have marked the history of the town, Théodore Deck, ceramics master in the 19th century has given his name to the local museum of art and history: the Musée Théodore Deck and the Pays du Florival.

Dominated by a remarkable vineyard, Guebwiller is the only commune in Alsace to produce four AOC Alsatian Grand Crus (vintages): the Kessler grand cru, the Kitterlé grand cru, the Saering grand cru and the Spiegel grand cru.

The town of Guebwiller is ideally located near Colmar (28km) and Mulhouse (22km) and Strasbourg, the European capital (100km). It is in the cross-border Rhinian space close to Basle in Switzerland (54km) and Freiburg in Germany (77 km).
