Murbach

  • Murbach

Nestled in the fold of a valley in the heart of the Florival, the village of Murbach is known for its Abbey, founded in 728 by Count Eberhardt, part of the family of Alsatian dukes. The Benedictine Abbey of Murbach obtained, over the centuries, numerous privileges that enabled him to expand in Alsace and beyond.

The Roman abbey, of which the apse and the transept remain, was built at the start of the XVIIIth c. Vestiges are still visible today giving an idea of how magnificent the entire construction must have been.
