Le Grand BallonWith its highest peak at 1424 metres in altitude, the Grand-Ballon is the highest summit in the Vosges mountains. It is well-known to hiking, downhill skiing and cross-country ski enthusiasts. Tourism expanded in the Grand-Ballon in the XIXth century with the advent of railroads in the valleys.
On top of the Grand-Ballon summit stands the Diables Bleus monument erected by the Club Alpin Français and the Club Vosgien in tribute to the victims of the batallions of mountain infantry who fought in the First World War.
Radar for civil aviation was designed as an architectural work by its creator Claude Vasconi and built in 1997.
From underneath the radome, you can access an orientation table providing magnificent views.
