La Brasserie d'Emile is a micro-brewery set up in my garage in Guebwiller, Alsace. I've been brewing as an amateur for several years, for my own consumption and for friends. I created the structure in May 2020 to be able to start selling a few bottles, and I've decided to devote myself fully to making beer since then.
Who am I?
"So you're Emile? Uh, no, I'm Hervé! Emile was my grandfather! Born in 1920, he was a farmer in Brittany. He had a small farm with a few cows and pigs, and produced a little cereal, notably barley. Of course, he didn't use it to make beer, but to feed his animals. I've named my brewery after him, as a nod to how well I knew him, and also as a play on words, La Brasserie d'Emile et une bière...
As for me, Hervé Legrand, I'm 44 years old. I was also born in Brittany, in the Côtes d'Armor region, and moved to Alsace in 2008 on a business trip. I ended up staying in Guebwiller out of love for the region and a little more too...
Following the end of my previous professional activity, I've been devoting myself for several months now to developing my micro-brewery and making it viable (it's well on the way!!). I want to do a job that makes sense to me, and do it in line with my ecological convictions.
